Our grateful thanks to Pat Willis and her helpers for making the broadcasting of the Royal Wedding in the auditorium such a huge success. About 50 people were present including several children. All enjoyed the excellent picture projected through our digital projector on to a large screen, as well as a lovely buffet lunch, a toast to the couple and sharing a wedding cake.

Our Luncheon Club starts on Monday 9th May and then meets weekly. A choice of two main courses and two sweets. It is a club with an annual membership fee of £1; the cost of the meal is only £4, including coffee or tea. It would be a great help if those who are coming let us know so we can prepare appropriately.

Planning Dawlish’s Future Dawlish is one of the few towns to be awarded £20,000 towards the costs of preparing a Neighbourhood Plan, and the money will include the cost of a referendum on the plan when it is completed. Members of the Steering Group will be at the Local Produce Market on the Lawn on Friday 6th from 9.00—2.00. This is an opportunity to talk about what is proposed for the town and surrounding areas. There will be other ‘drop in’ meetings, including one in the auditorium later in May. But take this opportunity to p articipate in shaping the future of Dawlish; it could be the final chance to revive the town’s fortunes.

FOR YOUR PRAYERS DURING THE WEEK

The prayer board is available for your prayer requests

Flip Ware died early on Friday morning aged 90. Although we only got to know her when she moved to a home in Dawlish two years ago after a stroke, we enjoyed her interest in the congregation and her great sense of fun. The funeral will be in her home church of St Michael’s in Teignmouth—the date is not yet known. Give thanks for Flip’s life and faith, and pray for her daughters Marion and Pat and their families.

Please continue to pray for

Carrie who lost her daughter recently

Edna Davison suffering from cancer

Stan, Nina Cartwright’s brother, who is awaiting results of more tests

Helen Humphries has been diagnosed with invasive cancer—give thanks that the cancer is not as widespread as at first thought.

Jo has secondary cancer on the liver; she has two children aged 5 & 6.

Birthdays this week: Monday (2nd) Deirdre Lee; Friday (6th) Maggie Ashton

This week we pray for Pauline Laybourne ’s pastoral group:
Jan Adams, Eric & Olive Carless, Peggy Curle, Christine & Ian Hattersley, Lillian Low, June Makey and Christine Steele.

In January we prayed for David ’s daughter-in-law with pneumonia following Swine Flu. It seemed she might die, and many people prayed for her. She has made a slow recovery, but there was a hardening in the walls of the lungs, requiring a difficult and painful operation to restore normal breathing. A painful operation was postponed at the last minute because of an emergency. Two days later in the new pre-op checks, it was found that the hardening is slowly being reduced. When prayer seemed not to be answered, a miracle occurred. Give thanks and please continue to pray for her and her family.

REFLECTION ON THEME OF SERVICE

There are Gospels according to Matthew
to Mark, to Luke and John too.
But there's another gospel many are reading -
the Gospel according you.

All teachings we find in the Bible
are facts we know to be true:
You must live them to make them the Gospel,
the Gospel according to you.

Many read not the words of the Bible;
I will tell you what some of them do—
they are reading the book you are writing,
the Gospel according to you.

There’s great power in gospel preaching,
the Bible teaches that this is true,
but the sermons most likely to influence others
is the Gospel according to you.

God helps us to be faithful to Jesus,
to live all his teachings true,
so that all may see his Spirit
in the Gospel according to you.

You are writing a gospel, a chapter each day
by things that you do, by things you say.
Others read that gospel, whether faithless or true!
Say! What is the Gospel According to you?
