The Church Secretary says
“I was really encouraged by the way our members saw the vacancy preceding Roger's appointment as minister as a period of preparation for our next ministry. We are fortunate to have the help of our own lay preachers and retired ministers and a congregation of members willing to do whatever they can to follow God’s calling.
Now we are delighted once again to have our own minister, resident in Dawlish.
The last few years have been some of the most exciting and significant in our congregation's life. Attendance has increased, the roof has been renewed and our plans for development have been supported by a wide section of the population. We have raised a large sum of money for the refurbishment. I believe that we stand on the threshold of thrilling and demanding advance as we seek to serve the Lord.”
The Church Treasurer says
“It is great to be the treasurer of a church with giving increasing by 20% a year and which has been able to exceed its appeal target of £25,000. It is particularly heartening because so many of our members are pensioners and we know times are hard.
But of course the money and the buildings the money supports are only tools to do God's work, so I am even more pleased to be part of a congregation which is forward looking and is already developing imaginative ways of engaging in mission locally."
The Minister says
“It is a thrill as well as a challenge to be minister of Dawlish URC. It is a thrill because the church members are lovely people to work with and because the church's situation in the centre of the commercial area of Dawlish gives us unique opportunities. It is already a place people come to daily for prayer, and the fellowship provides a warm welcome to the lonely and the aged as well as to holiday makers and passers-by.
It is a challenge because we all recognize that a lot has to be done to the building to make it suitable for the 21st century.
I believe that the start of work with children and the growing number attending worship are signs which God has given us to assure us that he has a purpose for us and he is already preparing us for it. The best is yet to come."
